1 Tb GRAPHICS CARD ? AMD’s new Radeon Pro Graphics Card with M.2 Flash Memory
AMD changed the GPU game completely with its Radeon SSG Graphics Card that can have memory upto 1Tb . If you ever wanted to have massive memory for Rendering (or Gaming?), TechBurner has some good news for you!
A few days back people were debating about 8gb Graphics memory being overkill for Gaming and now AMD has unveiled a new Graphic card , Radeon Pro SSG .
Well , there is not much use for this amount of memory for any Modern Game , but those in the creative industries like VFX and 3D modelling can’t get enough of the stuff. Things that simply could not be done on a GPU before have become a reality. For Professionals working in movie rendering, previsualization, and massive, complex CAD models, GPU storage does change the game.

The technical side is not as complex! , It’s a bunch of M.2 PCIe drives (solid state drives) that are connected to a Professional Gpu. The memory is connected through 8 PCIe lanes that are peeled off the main bus ,and there you go! No special Motherboard required for this “Magic GPU“. No more technical details were given out, nor were pictures of the card, but that should be enough to get us started.
The memory used is Non Volatile , that is – it wont be deleted on shutting the system down , ram is volatile -hard disk is not. So, now you have Terabytes of low latency persistent memory that is hooked up with a Powerfull GPU. The price is not revealed yet but AMD is selling Developer units for $9999 .
To demonstrate, the company showed a high-end system without SSG renderring a RAW 8K video file at 17FPS. On the same system with the SSG it scrubbed through at a steady 30FPS.They even claim that a smooth 90FPS is possible.
Before this it was possible to do this without SSG’s but AMD claims 5.6x speedup or so for the cost of two consumer SSDs.
What magical things can you do with your new AMD SSG equipped GPU ? Nothing really, Right now its all demos and benchmarks but the Potential is Unlimited.
