Use External graphic Card on your laptop using OCulink
Day by day laptops are getting closer to the performance on a computer but the main throttling point is the graphics card because they are limited to small size and low power comparison. BUT with the Oculink cable you will not have to worry about that any more, you can get the full performace of an external graphic card on your laptop just by connecting it to your laptop using the cable.
PCI-SIG’s Secret Project is Here
The cable is being developed by The PCI Special Interest Group(PCI- SIG) and in a press conference on Tuesday the executives have said that the Revision 0.9 of the product is being reviewed and the Revision 1.0 will be released this quarter. The company is already working on the Revesion 1.0 so the product will be in consumers hands very soon.
Low Power More Bandwidth
PCI Express is connected via the new cable allowing external components like data storage devices and external Graphics card to be attached.
The main Problem being faced by the developers is that Oculink supports upto X4 lane width ,while x16 lane transfer is most commonly used by graphic cards today. It’s been said that x8 and x16 support is coming but in later revisions. OCulink will not only power up the laptops but can also be used for the Computers to replace the already present PCI slots and make the body more compact.
The Pricing of the product has not been discussed yet, so what do you think would be the price of the cable? and what will be the maximum amount of money you are ready to spend on OCulink? Let us know in the Comments…
